Bringing rigor to Chinese tea evaluation
The tea academy at tea.school trains professionals to a standard previously reserved for national competitions. Every candidate completes blind tastings, knowledge examinations, and practical assessments designed to mirror China’s GB/T 18745-2006 sensory evaluation framework. The academy’s alumni community — hosted on tea.community — connects certified professionals with sourcing trips, masterclasses, and career opportunities. Since 2018, the pass rate has stabilised at 82%, reflecting the programme’s consistent difficulty and the quality of its examiners.

Behind every product site — from puerh.app to thetea.app — sits the same supply chain, cellar network, and quality-control team. Teamotea operates a dedicated logistics hub in Kunming, Yunnan, and a continental network of temperature-controlled cellars stretching from Saint Petersburg to Ulaanbaatar. The group’s e-commerce engines at shop.thetea.app and shop.puerh.app serve both retail and wholesale accounts, while tea.travel organises origin experiences that connect buyers directly with farms.

The constellation is guided by a core group of founders and tea specialists who combine decades of experience in tea sourcing, technology, and operations. Head Tea Sommelier Hinson Tse designs service protocols for restaurant partners; COO Max Mihal oversees logistics and supply-chain integrity; and CEO Evgeniy Smoley leads platform engineering and editorial direction.
